Announcement of the coin solving method
Step 1:
Divide the 12 coins evenly into 2 parts, 6 coins each.
Place 6 coins on each side of the balance scale.
The side of the balance scale with the 6 coins that includes the lighter counterfeit coin will definitely rise.
Step 2:
Then, divide the 6 coins that include the counterfeit coin evenly into 2 parts, 3 coins each.
Place 3 coins on each side of the balance scale. The side with the 3 coins that include the counterfeit coin, being lighter, will also definitely rise on the balance scale.
Step 3:
Take 2 out of the 3 coins that include the counterfeit coin, split them into 2 parts, 1 coin each, and place them on both sides of the balance scale.
If one of them is the counterfeit, the corresponding side of the balance scale will definitely rise, and we will know that the lighter one here is the counterfeit coin.
If both sides of the balance scale are of equal weight, the coin not weighed is the counterfeit one.
By using the balance scale three times, we can find out which coin is the counterfeit.
